HOME VISITING: Inspiring Moms to Achieve their Dreams too

Share:

Delaware Thrives - Home Visiting Blog April 2016When you become a parent you take on a million responsibilities. Providing basic necessities for your child is essential and you know it will cost you time and money. You want what is best for your child, so you will make sacrifices. Right?

Parenting doesn’t have to cost you everything in your life. You can still have dreams and aspirations. According to the National Campaign, only 38% of teen girls who have a child before age 18 get a high school diploma. Together, we can increase that number and help more girls earn diplomas. You may think that an unplanned pregnancy will prevent you from continuing your education and landing your dream job. It shouldn’t! Home visiting programs help parents provide for their children and themselves. Parents can achieve more with home visiting!

Nurse-Family Partnership has helped many moms achieve their dreams, despite their unexpected pregnancies. A Nurse-Family Partnership mom was even able to finish beauty school before giving birth to her beautiful healthy son! Take a look at this story about a Nurse-Family Partnership graduate, Christina, who was able to get her GED and start saving up money to eventually get her own place. This mom even finds the time to volunteer in a hospital, thanks to the support and encouragement from her home visitor. They did it with the support from their friendly home visitor and so can you. The best part about it? It’s free and there are proven benefits for families and babies who participate.

You may not think home visiting is for you. We ask you to give it a shot. There is almost no risk! There are four home visiting programs offered in Delaware. One of them is Nurse Family Partnership. They are looking for women who have been pregnant for 28 weeks or less with their first baby. Does this sound like you or someone you know? Don’t hesitate to enroll or refer a friend. The program is offered throughout the state and there are only a limited number of spots available.
