We are proud to share that the state of Delaware has officially recognized April 20–24, 2026, as National Home Visiting Week, through Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 172, sponsored by Senator Buckson and Representative Jones Giltner, along with members of the 153rd General Assembly. This recognition shines a spotlight on the powerful impact home visiting programs have on families across our state. As noted in the resolution, home visiting plays an “instrumental role in assisting families with young children to enhance their health and well-being.”
Delaware currently offers four evidence-based home visiting programs: Nurse-Family Partnership, Healthy Families Delaware, Parents as Teachers, and Early Head Start Home Visiting. All of these programs provide critical support to families who are expecting or raising young children. These programs connect families with dedicated Family Support Specialists, who build strong, trusting relationships through regular visits.

Through these connections, families receive guidance on everything from child development and school readiness to prenatal care, breastfeeding, safe-sleep practices, and stress management. As highlighted in the resolution, home visiting services help “create a safe and healthy environment for a young child to thrive in.”
The impact of this work is both meaningful and measurable. In 2025 alone, Delaware’s home visiting programs served more than 1,400 families and resulted in over 13,000 home visits, including 3,000 virtual visits. Research proves a return on investment of $1.80 to $5.70 for every dollar spent. And these programs contribute to stronger families and healthier communities.
At its core, home visiting is about connection, education, and empowerment. By equipping families with the tools and resources they need, these programs help ensure that children have the strongest possible start in life. National Home Visiting Week is a time to not only celebrate this work but also recognize the dedication of the professionals who make it possible.
Together, we remain committed to strengthening families, promoting child well-being, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
