Home Visitor Highlight

Theresa Mast, Assistant Program Manager, DECC Parents as Teachers

Theresa Mast headshotTheresa Mast has just completed her 15th year as a certified PAT Home Visitor — the past four years of that as the Assistant Program Manager with the DECC Parents as Teachers Program. Theresa has a special relationship with her families and recently was able to obtain some inspiring stories from dads within her program. These dads were willing to share what makes the home visiting program beneficial to them and how it has helped them become better dads. It is Theresa’s connections with these families that has encouraged these dads to share their stories to help inspire other dads. We are truly grateful for the relationships she is building with her families! Her supervisor, Christine Hoeflich-Olley, shared that Theresa is passionate about group connections and is creative and intentional in her design of groups and events. She is the queen of all things MESSY!

have been involved with the Home Visiting program for six years. I initially started as a Health Ambassador under ChristianaCare for four years, and later I was promoted to Program Coordinator for the Home Visiting Community Health Worker Program. I truly enjoy assisting families in understanding the importance of having a Home Visitor and the resources available to them. One of my most memorable moments was when I first began and had the opportunity to shadow at Children and Families First. Observing Asaiah Fisher interact with the families she visited was inspiring. Witnessing the bond they shared significantly shaped my perspective on the importance of this work and why I continue to support our community.

Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that I have always been passionate about helping others. As a young child, my family relocated here from the U.S. Virgin Islands, and we had limited knowledge of community resources or support systems to help us navigate the new culture. My upbringing has motivated me to be the supportive presence my family needed at that time, and to assist other families who may simply need a little guidance but might not know how to ask for it. I am very grateful for this program and all those who do this important work. You all are true heroes!
