Tom Gamel-McCormick

Tom is a home visitor with the New Directions Early Head Start Program within the University of Delaware. He has been a dedicated advocate for children under age 3, playing an instrumental role in promoting literacy and engaging families in our program. With his passion for early childhood development, he has been actively encouraging male role models to read with their children, especially during home visits. His efforts in promoting story time at local libraries have been incredibly successful in fostering a child’s love for reading from an early age.

But Tom’s contributions don’t stop there — he is also leading a new initiative that takes literacy beyond the page. By leading outdoor activities at local parks, he is introducing a fun and interactive way to engage young children and their families. His upcoming goal, focusing on nurturing the next generation of soccer players under age 3, is designed to blend physical activity with developmental skills, promoting both literacy and motor skills.

Tom’s innovative approach and commitment to the children and families in our program are a true testament to his dedication. His work is not only shaping future readers but also fostering a strong, engaged community of parents and caregivers.
