Safe Sleep: Dress With Less

We spend so much time trying to keep our babies warm that we seldom think about the possibility that they could get overheated. When temperatures rise in the spring and summertime, babies feel it too. And, just alike adults, babies find it difficult to sleep when they are hot, sticky and uncomfortable.

To keep your baby cool, dress him in lightweight layers that can easily be removed if he gets too warm. If you have air conditioning, you can put him in his regular sleeper. But, if you don’t have AC, a small t-shirt and a diaper or a lightweight onesie are plenty. If it does get a little chilly, you can always put a sleep sack over either outfit. Keep your baby safe and comfortable by dressing him or her in no more than one extra layer than you would wear. Sleep sacks or other infant sleep clothing can be used as long as the baby’s head is not covered.
