SAFE SLEEP: Getting your baby’s crib ready

Share:

When you’re expecting there’s a long list of things to do. One of the exciting things to get ready for is setting up your baby’s crib! It’s important that your baby has a safe space to sleep in. Make sure you do your research in getting the right crib and setting up the room properly.

  • Be sure the crib you buy is safe for your baby, especially if it’s a used one.
  • The crib should have a firm mattress and fitted sheet on it.
  • Do not put blankets or pillows in the crib. These soft items can cause Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Use soft items to decorate the baby’s room instead.

When it comes time to set up the baby’s crib in your room or their own room, make sure to follow these steps:

  • Keep the crib away from windows. If they’re too close the baby could reach for the window cords and hurt themselves.
  • Put the crib near a wall instead.
  • Cover up electrical outlets and make sure your baby can’t reach electrical cords.
  • Help keep your baby safe from furniture tip-overs by installing anchors to secure tall items.

Every household is different, but these tips will help make sure your baby’s room is a safe space to grow and thrive! To find out more about Safe Sleep click here.
