Easy Ways to get Five Servings of Fruits and Vegetables a Day

the risk

Most people should be eating more than three cups of fruits and vegetables every day, but many do not because they lack the time or do not like the taste of certain foods. Problem solved!  Read on for some quick and tasty ways to fit fruits and veggies into your day:

  1. Blend it. Make a smoothie for breakfast by mixing your favorite fruits and vegetables with low-fat milk or yogurt – it is almost like having a milkshake for breakfast. Click here for recipe ideas!
  2. Use frozen vegetables. They are quick and easy to cook, even microwavable, and hold the same nutritional value as fresh veggies.
  3. Keep a bowl of fruit and vegetables out on the counter as a daily reminder. Visually seeing them will trigger an urge to eat them!
  4. Put down the potato chips and pick up the carrot sticks, then dip in hummus or another low-fat dressing of your choice. Fruits and vegetables not only complement your meal, but they can be snack replacers as well.
